Under the sun of Mallorca

When landing in Mallorca we already felt like home! Probably because we were planning to stay at our best friend’s Ieva’s place and it looked so warmth and pleasant after that many various things, which happened for us in continent.

It was so nice to see Ieva’s face after a long time! She was beautiful, sun kissed and with shining eyes. That how living in South makes you look like! We were all very happy and when we arrived we went to the beach near the rocks to have night picnic with the wine, snacks, music and lots of candles! Mm, so chilly and relaxing.

During our 10 days in Mallorca, we did lots of nice things, which I will definitelly miss soon and especially when the winter comes:

  • every morning waking up together with the sun rays
  • all day long sunbathing and chilling in the beach
  • evenings in the terrace: reading books and eating fresh home made food
  • we rented a car and visited Cap de Formentor and capital Palma de Mallorca
  • we had fun in the biggest and greatest Mallorca’s club BCM Planet dance
  • curiosity: after fancy dinner and great party we slept in the car under the palm
  • we ate the best Pasta ever in the Pasta pasta restaurant
  • had a perfect boat trip along the costs of Calla Ratjada
  • we spent The night of the Shooting stars (La notte di San Lorenzo) on the rocks with friends and a bottle of whiskey. I cought 8 stars and made one and the same wish! Which I believe will definitely come true!

During the moments like these - I really love my life!

So the small resume of our Spanish trip would be very clear - 18 days of intensively living the life could bring you more adventures than one year of simple living. And even though we were travelling actually in the same country, the experience and impressions we gained in different places are so diverse. And has a huge value, which really makes sense in our lifes.

And oh, yes! <Here> is relaxing beat with some nice views from around the Spain. Enjoy and a presto!

The bad and the good Madrid

The bad

There was probably the inside voice, which wanted to warn us about the black shadow in Madrid. Thats why we didnt want to leave Barcelona that much.

There are 13 metro lines in Madrid and we had to change 3 to reach our flat from airport. The last one was the fatal. While we two little lost girls with big eyes where starring at the stop signs not to miss our one, one very bad men invisible took my walley with actually everything I had (cash, credit cards, insurance and etc.). I hope he had lots of fun! And there are thousands that lucky people like me. Police in this situation can do nothing, only register the incident. But anyway, despite all that nasty accident, we still wanted keep thinking positively, because there was only the beginning of our holiday!

Next morning unfortunatelly we faced the same situation in the metro, just this time we successfully cought the long-hander and avoided bad effects. And then we honestly raised the question Why Madrid doesnt love us? But without finding the clear answer we just tried to make everything bright and shinny by ourselves. So we started to explore the city and enjoy the time.

The good

We started our exploration without the map, just randomly passing the city starting from the very center. And thats how we found the big Royal park with the refreshing fountain, and the Royal palace a bit further. And it was honestly breathtaking! Magnificent! And of course with the music again... Magic sounds of violin and melodies by Mozart. So we took a seet on the stairs of the church in front and tried to capture the moment. This time without the camera but with the eyes and years. The camera was totally powerless then.

Every Sunday there is Corida in Plaza de toros Las ventas and we didnt want to miss that show while we are in Madrid. Interesting thing is that Corida is not popular among locals, but mostly just among the tourists. There are plenty of Madridians who have never seen Corida and even are not curious to see it. Personally I was only interested to look at the clothes of matadors, because it really looks nice, original and made with lots of honest hand work and patience. But talking about the show - I really can not understand the tradition to kill 5 bulls every Sunday during almost all the year. Why? For what reason? Where is the point? How tradition could be so strong and influential? And finally where all this dead meat goes after? Surprisingly, even Spanish people dont know the real answers. So after matador killed the third bull, we left the plaza without any huge astoneshment. Only with lots of questions in our minds

Else, Madrid has really amazing architecture! Every house has different types of decor, diferent forms of windows and general imagery. Thats why you mostly walk with your head up and mouth opened. Madrid is beautiful and really big! Especially big after comparing it with my home-city. So after few days in Madrid I was sure that this city is too big for me. I really missed the sea and in my dreams time to time I was still getting back to Barcelona.

In this big city we stayed at the place of two very friendly and hospitable Guadalajarian brothers, who we found on Couchsurfing. Every Monday there is Couchsurfing meet in the beautiful park near Plaza de Spagnia where it is possible to admire the Guadarrama mountains and the most outstanding sunset. So that was really nice and cozy evening with about 30 people from all around the world! With different stories, differents experiences but the same way of travelling! And of course with sweet and never ending Sangria!

Last day in Madrid we had a nice walk along the main street Gran Via and then we visited Plaza de Cibeles and the tower with amazing panoramic city view. Then we had a lunch and chilly walk in Parque del Retiro which was really refreshing during extremely hot day! We also tried to visit Museo del Prado with an exhibition of Rafaeli, but unfortunatelly it was already closed. So finally after sending romantic postcards for our friends and homies, we got back home, where our Guadalajarian brothers with other friends were waiting for us with traditional Mexican dinner! We were really impressed and touched! Thus, we all had a long night in the terace with good food, light drinks and nice talks.

And then we started thinking, that probably Madrid started to love us. So I guess it is really true, that when you love life, life loves you back

Hope to come back soon with beautiful post from sunny Mallorca.

Wishes and kisses!

My second date with Barcelona

Pre-history

It was early April when me and my friend Giedre booked the flights for our summer holidays in Spain. Our final trip plan looked like this: Vilnius-Barcelona-Madrid-Palma de Mallorca-Vilnius. And we honestly felt more than worth this trip! During that moment I was deeply working with my final thesis and Giedre... Well she is in general simply sick and crazy with her medicine studies. So even despite the fact, that August was still far away, in our minds we were already having fun in Barcelona, watching bull-fights in Madrid and sunbathing at our friend`s Ieva`s place in Mallorca.

Music, which follows you

Even though:
-we landed in Barcelona at the midnight
-we were lost in one of the most dangerous areas in the city (according to taxi drivers)
-intead of our friend`s flats door, we knocked the brothel`s ones!
-my genius friend forgot the code to unlock our luggage and we went to sleep in the same conditions (or even worse!) as we left our homes,
...next day we were fresh, full of joy and happiness, with successfully unlocked luggage and ready to discover new things!

We started our first day slowly walking and enjoying surroudings in Park Guell. And again, like de javu, this lovely park met us with already known style of architect Gaudi. And he is huge talent! No doubts. Everything what is made by him is gentle, without sharp corners and so colorfull and magic! Personally I wouldnt like to live in a house made by Gaudi, but when I see it from aside, my heart beats up.

It was heating outside and we were following the shadow to avoid the sun in the park and suddenly we stopped in the place, where one guy was making brilliant melodies with a kind of instrument whose I really dont know the name (probably it was something made by his own). And the moment was memorable, because of the wonderful sound we had a pleasure to listen to! That music reached our ears at the very right time and right place. With the very right notes.

Later the next tick had to be marked near the dancing magic fountains of Montjuïc, so we turned to go back to the city. And after light lunch near Placa de Espana we reached the fountains, which unfortunatelly dance only at 9 p.m. when it gets dark outside. But in our situation the sun was still on the dance floor. So we only enjoyed the view, the museum and of course the romantic music! Which actually follows you as long as you are visiting touristic places.

After making cultural city tour around and having dinner with our local friends, the next must do thing was to visit night life! From our past experience we already knew the worthiest places in this kind of category, so the route was more or less clear.

Wotermelon, the beach and two little Hamlets after

At 6 a.m., when the local men on the streets were already selling the watermelons, which we wanted like never ever before (I
meant watermelons, not men), we reached our home with the next big purpose - The beach! And it was really the most refreshing thing which can happen after such a long night, so we left the beach only when the sun covered itself behind the buildings. And so the day was gone. But the night was here! Full of new adventures, fun and Icy Mohitos.

Following the plan, next morning we had to leave Barcelona and go to Madrid. Of course the plan looked attractive. But we were full of doubts and obscurity. Because Barcelona for us was really not less attractive than Madrid, so we just thought why to seek for the better, when the better is actually here?! And like little Hamlets we were considering to go or not to go... And to go won! So with the strange sadness and almost out of curiosity to visit new city, we left Barca.

To say honestly, I was already in love with Barcelona after my first visit. So after the second one - I fell in love even more!

To be continued with new adventures from Madrid.
